They make a tool that transforms a task into something you actually WANT to do.
Delta's Unisaw, Stihl Chainsaw, All-clad pans and now Dyson DC 17 vacuum are among those few.
Until yesterday, I figured all vacuums were more-or-less an equal pain. After all, the Bissell (junk) we bought had the same 12 amp, bagless design as the Dyson. I figured "How different could they be?" ( Answer -- LOTS!)
I bought the DC 14 "Animal" yesterday, not realizing there were _2_ Dyson "Animals". (I should have paid closer attention and also realized Bed/Bath/Beyond and Linens-n-Things carried out-of-date merchandise.
They neither one can even get the DC17. )
The DC14 was a good machine. The finest vacuum I had ever used.
As I was about to write my Amazon view (which I should do more often - thanks to all you who take your time to do), when I discovered there was a newer, better, machine -- this one, the DC17. I figured "what the heck." After going over living room 3 times with the Bissell then going over it with the DC14 and being amazed at what it picked up, I thought I had thoroughly cleaned the house with the DC14. After my discovery and subsequent return of DC14 and pick up of DC17 I re-cleaned the (I thought) clean house and was amazed as the dirt the DC17 picked up that the DC14 left behind. Multiple compartments worth!
The DC17 has significantly better suction than the 14, has a more powerful (wider?) head, puts out cleaner air, ...
Buy the DC17.

Good on pet hair... until it breaks.
I loved this for getting dog and cat hair off upholstery. It was loud and heavy, but I was so thrilled it worked I didn't care. Then the belt broke. We replaced it, but the thing never worked again. Also, when we ordered the roller for it, we never got it. Something more reliable next time.

Worth every penny...
I was skeptical about Dyson vacs in general because of the price, but I have to say this is probably one of the best purchases I've ever made for several reasons. The main reasin is that I have nerve damage and less than normal cartilage in my lower vertebrae, which made vacuuming very painful and laborous. On top of that, I have two dogs so I vacuum all the time. This vacuum is literally a miracle for me. It is so lightweight and so easy to maneuver that I don't have any pain after doing the whole house. That is really saying something, since things as small as leaning over for 10 minutes to wash the dishes causes me pain. It practically glides effortlessly across my floors (which are half carpet and half hardwood). Seriously, I almost cried tears of joy the first time I used it.

In addition, it works spectacular, and just snapped together out of the box. The first time you use it you'll see that so much thought went into the design specifcially for functionality. It's pretty and modern, but more importantly, it's functional. I love that it can move along flush with a wall, so I rarely need to use the attachments (except to get behind stuff). And it's relatively small. I expected it to be much larger, but it's small and so very, very light. You'll really notice the difference between it's 16lb and the normal 25-30lb for other 11 amp vacs. And it's relatively quiet.

Another thing I really like is that it doesn't seem to be a dust magnet. My last vacuum cleaner seemed to attract most of the dirt to itself, rather than sucking it into the canister. I stored it outside in our laundry room because it was a stinky mess (and I'm talking about a high end Dirt Devil model that was less than a year old). The Dyson is clean enough to stay in the house after several months.

Vacuuming is not the most glamorous thing in the world, but this vac has surely revolutionized house cleaning for me. I know, silly, but it's true.

Quality and convenience
I purchased an electrolux because I had owned one before... It was well constructed and easy to use, as well as very efficient. This newer model is nothing like the older model. Wish I would have spent the money replacing worn attachments instead.

Better than anything else, and less expensive too
I love this "mop". it's not really a mop... but boy does it work. It's so simple and effective that I clean my floors all the time. I have all hardwood and tile floors. I can clean all the floors in my house, upstairs and down, and the stairway in a matter of minutes. It's amazing. buy lots of the cotton covers. I go through 10-20 each time I do a thorough cleaning. then pop them in the wash and i'm ready to go for next time. I just fill a sink with my cleaning solution (murphys oil soap for the wood floors and spic and span for the bathroom tile floors).. dip in a cotton cover, wring and slip it on the mop and wash away. when it's dirty i peel it off and toss it in the laundry basket and get another one. No buckets!!! the greatest...!!
